1. ZCO CA ‘MATURE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS BURSARY’
Two bursaries are given to students who have had to interrupt their studies or formal education for medical, financial or other reasons, & are returning to complete their program(s).
What is the bursary? The Zonta Club of Ottawa, Canada provides financial assistance to mature female undergraduate students registered at the University of Ottawa or Carleton University.
Eligibility: An applicant must be a mature woman and student who has completed high school and who is entering university, or returning to university, after an interruption in her formal education.
How to Apply: The 2023/2024 Award information will be available online through the University of Ottawa and Carleton University Financial Services Bursary Programs. No applications available through our website.

The Zonta Club Mature Student Bursary
Established by the Zonta Club of Ottawa and awarded annually to a deserving undergraduate female, mature student who is in need of financial assistance to begin or continue her university education after an interruption in her formal education. Selection of the award will be made in consultation with the Zonta Club of Ottawa. Consideration is given to candidates who do not already have an undergraduate degree.

2. ZCO CA ‘Zonta Young Women in Leadership Award’
Description: Recognizing young women for their commitment to volunteerism, volunteer leadership achievements and dedication to empowering women worldwide
Each year, the Zonta Club of Ottawa, Canada ‘Zonta Young Women in Leadership Award‘ recognizes young women in the Ottawa area, ages 16 to 19, for demonstrating leadership skills and commitment to public service and civic causes. The award honours young women who participate in public affairs, by recognizing a commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women.
What is the value of the award?
The ZCO CA winner will receive CAD$800 and will have the opportunity to compete for the Zonta District 2 award of US$1,500. The winner at the Zonta District 2 level will have the opportunity to compete for the Zonta International award of US$5,000.

3. ZCO CA ‘JEAN M. COON HUMANITARIAN AWARD’
The ZCO CA Jean M. Coon Humanitarian Award honours high school students in the Ottawa area who demonstrate exceptional humanitarian community service.
What is the value of the award?
The ZCO CA winner will receive CAD$800 and will have the opportunity to compete at the ‘Zonta District 2’ level for an award of US$1,000. This award applies only to Zonta clubs in Zonta District 2 areas.

4. ZCO CA ‘THEATRE ARTS BURSARY’
ZCO CA Theatre Arts Bursary(s) are awarded annually to women in the National Capital Region who are currently enrolled in a post- secondary theatre program. These awards enable talented & qualified young women to achieve their professional goals.
Eligibility: Applicants must have their principal residence in the National Capital Region (NCR) or be pursuing theatre studies in the NCR.
What is the value of the award? A winner(s) will be chosen by the Zonta Club of Ottawa, Canada and a cash award of up to CAD$2,000 will be presented to the awardee.

5. ZCO CA ‘JANE M KLAUSMAN WOMEN IN BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIP’
This Scholarship is awarded annually to a woman pursuing an undergraduate or master’s degree in business management at a university in the National Capital Region, and Kingston, ON.
What is the value of the award?
A winner will be chosen by the Zonta Club of Ottawa, Canada and a cash award of CAD$1000 will be presented to the awardee.
Background information
Named in honor of Jane M. Klausman, a member of the Zonta Club of Syracuse, New York, USA, and the 1990-1995 Zonta International Parliamentarian, the first Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarships were awarded in 1998 to women pursuing degrees in business leading to a business management career.
Since then, Zonta has awarded 750 scholarships, totaling more than US$2 million, to 596 women from 74 countries.
The scholarship
The Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarships are awarded to women undertaking business studies who have demonstrated outstanding potential in the field. Zonta International offers up to 37 international scholar-ships of US$5,000 each. Any woman undertaking a business program at an accredited university/college/institute, including online students, in at least the second year of an undergraduate program through the final year of a master’s program at the time the application is submitted to the local Zonta club, is eligible to apply.
The Scholarship may be used at any university, college or institute offering accredited courses and degrees.

6. ZCO CA ‘NEW IMMIGRANT WOMAN AWARD’
What is the New Immigrant Woman Award?
The New Immigrant Woman Award is for a Mature Immigrant Student to assist with her studies at any level, including Language training, High School Diploma, College or University.
What is the value of the award?
The Zonta Club of Ottawa invites applications for this $1,000 Award.
The applicant must:
- Be a resident of Ottawa or Hull/Gatineau
- Have immigrated to Canada after the age of 18 and
- Be a single mother with one or more dependent children and arrived in Canada within the last seven (7) years
- Need financial support to pursue formal education and/or is challenged by interruptions to her own education

The Zonta International Women in STEM Scholarship
A single candidate from each of Zonta’s 31 districts and one region will receive an award of US$5,000 from Zonta International.
– Women of any age and nationality, pursuing a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) degree program at an accredited university/college/institute, who demonstrate outstanding potential in the field and are living or studying in a Zonta district/region, are eligible.– Online students are also eligible to apply if enrolled at an accredited university/college/institute.– Students must be enrolled in at least the second year of an undergraduate program through the final year of a master’s program at the time the application is submitted to the local Zonta club. Applicants must be in school at the time the scholarship funds are disbursed and must not graduate before April 2024.– Previous district and international Women in Technology Scholarship recipients may not apply for the Women in STEM Scholarship.– Applicants for the 2023 Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship may not also apply for the 2023 Women in STEM Scholarship.
